Decision-making
has proven challenging to me through the
years. Only recently have I
started to get a handle on how amazing it is to choose
rather than dwell in "the wavering." Historically
there've been so many things that I enjoy in life, so many
options and possibilities, I simply didn't want to miss
out! What would
happen, however, is that I'd sit undecided in
suspended animation for a ridiculous period of time, leaving
me mentally, physically and emotionally spent as I mulled my
options over and over and over again. Exhausting and
disempowering!
What I've
discovered is that simply choosing, without wavering, is
powerful. A friend told me
"Any decision is better than no decision." It is so true. And what's more,
when my choice comes from trusting myself, it reinforces my
faith in me. With each choice, I
begin to trust myself more in all areas of my
life.
Inconsistency
Many of us find
some areas easy for decision making and others
difficult. For me, it is no
longer difficult to decide whether or not to eat wheat. I am really clear
that the short term indulgence is not worth how crummy I
feel for several days.
The repercussions outweigh the "fix." There are other
areas of my life however, that I've just recently learned to
manage with new-found clarity. The areas of difficulty
offer the greatest learning as well as immense potential to
reclaim wasted energy.
If you are incredibly decisive in one or more
areas of your life and not in others, consider what might be
the cause of the difficulty. How does the level
of risk feel different? What do you imagine
the inconsistency stems from and how can you take greater
responsibility for it?
Bridging the Gaps
There is a huge
distinction between sitting back and passively letting life
happen vs. intentionally choosing all aspects of your
life.
When I sit down
to do work with an "I have to get this
done" attitude it is
draining. When
I sit down and choose to do my
work, it gives me energy, I feel motivated. Either way, I'm
doing my work, yet the impacts on me are worlds apart (not
to mention the quality of work I produce.) Choosing is
incredibly powerful because I am fully participating in my
life.
Strengthening my ability to choose is like any
skill-based sport.
At first it feels awkward, uncomfortable, and
requires a lot of effort. Just as in
sports, gradually new "muscles" and patterns are
established.
Before long, the skill simply is. My
body and mind know what to do and it becomes nearly
effortless and I trust myself immensely.
Into Action
What decisions
have you been postponing or skirting around? Choose a response.
Now, today,
don't delay.
Don't move on until you've made the choice. And trust
yourself. Let
go of second guessing.
Lately when I feel the urge to delay a choice, I
catch myself and instead take action. I've found that it
isn't necessarily easier later, and in the meantime I
waste energy worrying about it. So I've begun to
choose in that moment and it is amazing. I feel lighter, more
energized and free.
A fabulous quote says, "Leap and the net will
appear."
What would it be like to stop waiting for your life
to begin and start to choose now? What are you willing
to commit to, to take a stand for? Choose powerfully today
and trust that you are exactly where you need to
be.

destiny is shaped." Anthony
